I Despise Everyone...
Maybe its because one of my heroes died last night and I am a little bit cranky but man is the internet pissing me off today.
First there was this story:
http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Geek_Squad_Sued_For_Videoing_Customer_In_Shower#c6131317
It is about a girl who discovered that while she was taking a shower, a guy from Geek Squad (the Best Buy service that "fixes" computers) had secretly videotaped her by leaving his cameraphone recording in the bathroom.
I read this on digg and half the comments were people saying crap like "Stupid whore shouldn't have been taking a shower while a stranger was in the house." Nevermind that she wasn't alone in the house and probably felt safe that the guy wasn't going to rape her, but calling her a whore? Cause someone taped her in the shower?
Later I saw this story:
http://digg.com/celebrity/Is_17_year_Old_Hayden_Panettiere_of_Heroes_the_New_Hollywood_Bad_Girl#c6130141
The headline reads "Is 17-year Old Hayden Panettiere of "Heroes" the New Hollywood Bad Girl?". Apparently there is a picture floating around where this 17-year old actress is obviously jokingly licking the fully clothed nipple of one of her friends. So it seems like a girl can't joke around with friends and take a picture without people implying that she is a whore. And of course the digg comments were more than implying it.
Now I know that the majority of people who write on the internet are guys and apparently the majority of the people who post on digg are teenage jerkoffs but don't these people have sisters? Don't they at least have some respect for women because they have moms?
So while we are losing some of our tired old sensitivities because of freedom of speech (and there are few people more pro-free speech than me) it seems we are also losing the concept of simple fucking respect.
That is my crotchety old man post of the week.
