So who is running for Texas governor?

Pretty soon the Texas gubernatorial elections will be coming up, and I, as a fellow Texas citizen encourage you to go out and get educated on who is running. There are a few out there that are quite interesting running on different tickets. Some are interesting just by the fact that they have an interesting view of how things in Texas should be run, and others are interesting not just by their ideology, but by the fact that they have the name "Kinky" in their name. And if you ask me, if you have the name Kinky in your name, people should really take the time to look you up and see what you're about. Anyway, on to business, During the course of the few days, I plan on giving you some information on the candidates, I will be as unbiased as possible. Leaving only my opinions on the comments section. The only opinions that you will hear on the posts will be those of the Candidates themselves. I feel this is a good idea because I feel we all should be informed on those who are running and vote on who we feel is the best candidate for the Job. Today I will begin with the Independents, tomorrow, I will continue with the Republicans, And finally ending it all with the Democrats. Please at least take the time to read what i have posted, and if you would like to debate, question, or criticize, the comments section is, of course, open.

The Independents
  • Kinky Freedman-
    • as an independent, Kinky makes his case clear. He states that texas politititans are clearly giving themselves to lobbyists, and big donors. while also reminding the voters about recent indictments of Corruption and money laundering in Texas Legislature, Kinky tells us that the seat of power should be given to someone who is "unafraid to give new ideas and honest anwers".
    • On education, He Reminds us that We have the highest drop out rates in the country with $6,000 below the national average in teachers salaries. Kinky states that he "will work to make sure that teachers are paid what they're worth. Period." Finally, he attacks the TAKS and TAAS tests as not substantial means of ways to make children learn the material.
    • Kinky discusses Healthcare beginning with " Texas ranks rock-bottom in providing for the basic needs of its youngest and poorest residents. More than one fifth of Texas children have no health insurance at all." He mentions that the cutting of the children's health insurance program, and how it isn't helping the future of Texas. He believes it is reckless and shortsided, and no way to invest in the youth of Texas.
    • Kinky Also discusses Renewable Energy, He wants to encourage investment in innovative technologies like biodiesel and new methods of electricity generation. He puts a case on how these are not "fringe technologies", saying how Texas is 51st in the nation in using such technology, but also states that cities like Fort Stockton, and Fort Worth already use them.

  • Carole Keeton Strayhorn
    • Miss Strayhorn is also Running on the independent ticket but, her cause is still a little unknown, so far she is also claiming better public school systems.
    • She claims that Rick Perry has divided Texas too much with political parties, and doesn't want such a thing during a Strayhorn administration.
    • She calls herself a common sense fiscal conservative, She says she would rather pay 98 dollars a month, and insure a kid with prescription drugs rather than pay $6,700 for staying one day in the hospital because of giant property taxes. She also says she would rather educate our kids than incarcerate them.
    • She is adamantly opposed to illegal immigration, and rights towards illegal immigrants, which is kind of like breaking tradition in Texas.
    • She still has not put a set page of issues on her web site, but she did have an interview with Chris Matthews on MSNBC; which is where i've gotten this information, if you would like to keep up with Miss Strayhorn, I also recommend her web site, it is: http://www.carolestrayhorn.com/
Tune in when I discuss the issues of those running on the Republican ticket and their issues.
