Plans!
I've been thinking for a while. I've been reading a lot, too. I just recently read The Graduate, and it's nice to see that there are others who aren't exactly thrilled with life after college.
So here's my plans as of now:
Fall 2008 - Start school again, major in English.
Yeh i know its weird, but to tell you the truth, i've always been interested in english and i probably should've majored in it to begin with, but i was told i was good at math and it brought in money so i did engineering.
I'm done with engineering.
Sometime later - Master's in English.
Sometime later, later - PHD in English.
During that time i hope to write some books, maybe some screenplays, short stories, and eventually teach, hopefully at a top college up here.
These are totally temp plans that could change any moment, but i just gotta get out of this "stagnant" state cuz i feel like i'm wasting away.
Thoughts and opinions welcome.
Peace.

Well that's totally been my plan all along. Except switch English with Molecular Biology and shit.
As for english, I don't know man, Sounds like a bad Idea. Sure its the most romantic, but it really isn't the most reassuring one professionally. Not all English majors get jobs, or get to write screenplays. In fact some engineering majors (and Chemistry majors; Kurt Vonnegut what uuup!) are great writers/directors. If you really want to write, take some writing classes. But don't let it cut into your bread winning.
Thanks for the comment rennie.
I agree with you that its not the most solid looking major for any job prospects, but i'm planning on keeping my day job for a while.
In the future, i really hope to forget all this bread winning stuff and just be able to do what i want to do, even if it means tough living.
good on you for wanting to do what makes you happy and having the balls to pursue it even if it doesn't bring in the big dollars. there is no point in sticking with engineering purely for the money.
and don't worry Joey, if all this puts you in the poor house you are welcome to sleep on our couch. you will just have to fight Banky for it.
whats a banky? childhood blanket?
yes, Joey will have to have a battle to the death with a child's blanket if he wants to use our couch as his base of operations. my money is on the blanket :p
Well, you could engineer a UAV to destroy the blanket and claim dominance of the couch once you get a robotics and controls masters with me and Cisco... But, you are a good writer from what I have seen. I don't think any school will make you better though. Let’s face it; you have a real talent for engineering. You were better than 90% of our class of... ENGINEERS! aka: People who really and truly want to design shit. So, if I ever get on your ass about how lame you’re being, it's because I think you have a real talent: the possibility to invent something and become immortal.
