a wee bit on posers
if there is something i really despise are posers
and nuevo laredo is crawling with them
i just gave a ride to my friend eriberto to his house, and usually you have to cross the street paseo colon
it is there that the prepubescent teens and perverted grownups gather to drive around in circles for a meaningless quest to satisfy the urge to be accepted
inside it are poser punks
now i may not be all that punk hardcore type of guy. i like to fit into the scheme of emo core or something like that. you decide. but what i want to get at is that punk rock in this time and city is dead. well its dead in the paseo colon thats for sure. theyre posers, and im gonna quote stevo (slc punk) on this "posers say theyre punk rock but they do it for fashion", and well fashion it is. they try and impress ladies and men alike by wearing "punky looking" clothes. the "punk" rock band t-shirts, their dickies, their converse shoes, trucker hats, faux hawks. why the fit perfect into the scene. or so they think.
when did credibility of having a true belief in music change into this empty struggle to be accepted. it seems today that the more punk you look the more alternative you are, and the more people crow around you (at least here in nuevo laredo) because they think youre an artiste, a rebel, someone with an edge. when in fact its destroying the very fabric of punk rock.
first of all, punk rock is a movement of rebelion. its fighting against a system that imposes rules like a god, its like saying, hey i have rights too.
but right now, at this very moment, hordes of pseudo anarchists roam the streets playing good charlotte and blink 182 (dude ranch was godlike mind you, the latter stuff sucks), or avril lavigne and kelly osbourne as they profess theyd always been punk rock.
none of those assholes know what the anarchy symbol stands for. they just like putting the sticker on their brand new car. they also love el che guevara, which image has also been devaluated because of the fools who put his sticker up on theyre car. who woulve taught, el che became a product of consumerism as well as the anarchy symbol.
but then again, these people show no interest in knowing what punk is, what its symbols stand for. but let me tell you, dressing like lavigne or the charlottes is not helping. punk rock is a rebelion inside the mind, not outside the body. its posers like these that create a bad image for punk rockers. ive been dressing the way i do since the year 2000 and it seems that now the way i am is part of fashion. i hate this, i wear converse bevcause theyre comfortable, band shirts cuz they fit like gloves, and dickies cuz they resist wear and tear. i dont want to make a statement, if i want to do that, i will express my opinion and reasons for it. not take a culture of other people just because it looks cool.
believe me, watching and emulating what mtv tells you is not punk. nor the bands in it.
posers beware, your fad is dying and there are people like me that are not ok with the way you are. it is the posers who go inside our concerts and cause a ruckus (moshing really violent to cath the attention of the women) and create a bad image for the real punk rockers.
though i may not be all hardcore punk i enjoy emo, a lot. but you dont see me trying to fit in a group. its just not right. you are who you are, and if you pretend to be something your not by grasping someone elses ideas well you end up looking like a real asshole.
i dont like posers, theyre just lowering the standards, ideas and culture of what punk rock is.
just be who you are, not what tv tells you to.
forge your own identity.
cheers
